Salvador Dalí, A Magician
Dalí, a visual magician full of bizarre ideas and surprises, was a surrealist artist who used symbols and seemingly unrelated figures to express his views of the world and himself. Every time I see his moustache, I can’t help but connect him with Velázquez. The same teasing expression, even a hint of mockery towards the audience, makes me laugh. I included three of his self-portraits in the project. Two are from his early twenties, yet they display completely different styles—Impressionism and Cubism—both of which influenced him. The last one, which I particularly favour, showcases his more mature artistic identity and highlights his talent for surrealist expression.
