Joaquín Sorolla
Sorolla is known for his portraits and landscape paintings, but only a few of his self-portraits remain. As an Impressionist, his works are characterised by great transparency and an excellent use of light and shadow contrasts. Although portrait painting was not Sorolla’s primary interest, he had the ability to capture the essence of a figure without detailing every aspect. This quality reminds me of Mompou. Thus, the only self-portrait I included in the visual is paired with Mompou’s No. 16, Calme, a piece that appeared only once during the entire performance.
