El Greco and His Only Existing Self-Portrait

El Greco had a special ability to portray others, leaving behind many works full of bold ideas that influenced painters like Picasso and Cézanne. However, like other contemporary painters of the Renaissance, he left behind few self-portraits. The only possible self-portrait by El Greco is Portrait of an Old Man, which is now housed in the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. When I look at this painting, I find a calmness and empathetic feeling similar to Mompou’s music.
